West Building Supplies has expanded outside its native Bridlington for the first time.
The business, which has three depots in Bridlington, launched a new, purpose built-branch in Scarborough earlier this month.
The move makes West Building Supplies one of Yorkshire’s largest independent builders’ merchants.
Director Oliver West said the new branch was strategically positioned on the outskirts of the town, enabling the company to maximise opportunities in Scarborough and along the A64 corridor.
The branch, which sits on a 1.34-acre site on Thornburgh Road, Eastfield, offers a mix of products ranging from building materials, timber and aggregates to plumbing, electrical and tools.
West said: “It has always been the intention to grow the business so launching in Scarborough is a very exciting move.
“There is lots going on in the town so there’s plenty of potential to capitalise on.
“We’ve only been open a couple of weeks, but we’re already picking up lots of customers, which is fantastic.
“We’re perfectly located for the trade in Scarborough and along the A64 to Malton, so when they become more aware of us, I think they’ll come.”
Howden-based Filplastic UK assisted West Building Supplies with the design of the new branch as well as suppling and fitting racking and shop shelving.
The company provided cantilever, pallet and vertical racking for the warehouse and yard; shop shelving for the shop and trade counter, and; long span shelving and baskets for the mezzanine floor.
West said: “We’ve worked with Filplastic before, they supplied racking for our Bessingby branch and shop shelving to our other branches.”
Gary Winter, Filplastic’s Business Development Manager for the North, said the company was delighted to have been appointed to carry out the work.
He said: “West Building Supplies is a fantastic independent Yorkshire builders’ merchant that has real ambitions to grow. We’re proud to be playing a part in that growth and wish them all the best for their new depot.”
