The senior leaders of one of the UK’s leading tool, plant and equipment hire specialists swapped their laptops for the trade counter and yard to give hard-working branch colleagues a well-earned day off.

Travis Perkins Hire Managing Director Ian Sharman-Jones, along with fellow members of the senior leadership team (SLT), attended its Bristol St Philips branch to carry out the operational work for a day.

The SLT carried out a range of jobs, including serving customers both in-person and on the phone as well as testing and cleaning equipment.

Regular members of the Bristol St Philips' team were each given a day off from their job as a reward for winning an internal competition.

Travis Perkins Hire has the UK's largest hire network with more than 270 branches, and they all competed in a special ‘bingo card' style competition, with the race on to complete 25 tasks throughout a month to achieve a ‘full house'.

The teams at Bristol St Philips and Aylesbury came out on top to trigger the main prize, while more than 30 branches won pizza vouchers.

Sharman-Jones said: "It was a real pleasure for myself and other members of the SLT to give our successful colleagues a day off and to step up and do important work in the branch.

"I used to work in branches, so it was enjoyable to roll back the years and carry out some of the tasks our colleagues do so brilliantly every day.

"The initiative showed what great jobs all our colleagues do to carry out the tasks which need to be done yet still deliver the outstanding customer service we are renowned for.

"The bingo card competition was a fantastic initiative – branches were really engaged with it and it created a great buzz."
