The builders' merchant is giving each £750 to alleviate workers' financial concerns with the bonus 'energy supplement'.

Staff at Emerys Timber and Builders Merchants in Stoke-on-Trent are getting an extra £750 in their pay packets to help tackle the rising energy costs.says it wants to alleviate workers' financial concerns with the bonus 'energy supplement'.

Around 60 employees are receiving the payment, meaning Emerys is paying out around £45,000 to staff to help get them through the tough times.

The money is not restricted to only those who pay bills as young apprentices living at home with their parents are also getting the cash to support their own families.

The move comes in the midst of the cost of living crisis as families across the UK battle huge rises in energy and petrol prices.

Emerys Managing Director, James Hipkins, said: "The news is a daily topic of conversation, whether it is what's happening in Ukraine or the fear of increased fuel prices, staff who were putting £60 in their tank to fill up are now putting in £80. From April, programmes like Martin Lewis are forecasting big increases in fuel surges and energy and electric. It puts people who are living on normal wages into a bit of a 'fear factor'."

"Interest rates have gone up, mortgage rates will probably go up, and unfortunately it seems that inflation will continue to rise, so the more I can do to help our employees, the better."
