LONDON: Council leaders have set out their plans to hasten the fitting of home insulation in millions of houses across Britain.
Councils could save £2bn and speed up plans to reduce fuel bills for millions of people if the current government schemes for making homes greener were combined into a single scheme
At a meeting with Communities Secretary John Denham, councils also stated that they wanted to build on the example of Kirklees Council, which has offered to insulate every home in its area for free.
If the Government gave councils control over the money which is currently available to energy suppliers, they said they would commit to making cuts to carbon emissions in their area. This would save homeowners money and boost energy efficiency.
