During the last 12 months, building materials from CEMEX UK have contributed to 25,000 new homes, 22% of the total number of new homes built in the UK. To further assist the house building industry, particularly in the South East, CEMEX has opened a new block facility at Haughley in Suffolk.

The factory, which covers eight acres, utilises ‘egg laying’ production to manufacture both dense and lightweight concrete blocks and is capable of producing over 300,000 m2 of blocks per year.

Deliveries are now being made to local builders’ merchants, with increasing supplies going out each month. Having agreed the concept for the plant in spring this year, the site has been quickly developed including gaining BSI accreditation.

Laurence Dagley, director of concrete products, said: “The Haughley Block plant represents a significant investment and complements our existing network of concrete products production sites across the UK. As well as providing local employment, our new site provides much needed blocks for the South East region and demonstrates CEMEX’s commitment to meeting the needs of our customers.”

CEMEX UK is also investing in a new precast flooring beam factory in Rochester, Kent. This factory is scheduled to open in the new year.
