Sundolitt UK has revealed plans to invest £9 million in a new manufacturing plant for the production and conversion of expanded polystyrene insulation (EPS) products.

At approximately 7000m2, the new site, located in the in the Bedford/Luton area, will employ around 12 staff and manufacture EPS block for conversion into the full range of insulation and civil engineering products.

The move is a result of a strategic decision by the company to become the leading expanded polystyrene manufacturer within the UK construction industry. 

Colin Morrow, General Manager at Sundolitt, commented: “We feel that the move south from our Gateshead plant is a vital one for our continuing success and development. Our parent company are showing their support and confidence in the UK construction market with this investment and we feel the location is perfect to support the industry. We will be converting an existing site, so plan to be fully operational by September 2021”.

A family-owned business for more than 100 years, The Sunde Group is one of the European leaders in the production and conversion of EPS- and XPS-based products and employs around 450 staff across 18 sites, in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Spain, as well as the UK.

Sundolitt will continue to operate as normal from its other sites in Scotland, servicing the fish and meat packaging industries.
