Linnell Bros has begun construction on an 11,700 sq ft extension to its mill in Silverstone, marking a significant investment to boost capacity and efficiency.
The family-owned timber merchant, now in its fifth generation, is expanding its purpose-built site sited one mile north of Silverstone to better serve its trade and public customers. The new steel portal frame building will bring separated mill sections significantly closer together to improve workflow and increase output.
The new building will feature composite panel cladding, colour-coded roller shutter doors, and concrete yard surfacing matching the existing facility. Designed by Towcester-based Tuckley Chester Design, the building is part of a broader plan that includes enhanced machinery, storage, and vehicle parking.
Roger Linnell, director at Linnell Bros, said: "Our family has been working with timber in Silverstone since 1880. This extension ensures our mill keeps pace with customer needs for years to come."
Directors John and James Linnell said: "Consolidating parts of the mill that were previously separated will streamline operations and help us meet growing demand.
Recent investments include advanced mill machinery such as a cross-cut line and double-ended tenoner, alongside two new delivery vehicles."
