Garden supplier helps with vital garden makeovers for children with complex health needs.
In these times of uncertainty, we are all finding ways to save money and help each other where we can as a result of the cost of living crisis.
As a response to the current economic climate, some businesses have decided to use their skill set for the better, supporting customers and helping communities who may be struggling.
Ultra Decking, the UK's fastest-growing composite decking company, is an example of one business making a positive impact, through its partnership with WellChild.
WellChild is a charity that offers garden transformations for children with complex health needs, making spaces that are accessible and safe for the children to enjoy their gardens.
Its recent project with Ultra Decking shows how generosity and kindness can make a big difference to people's lives, like Doris and her family.
Doris has a rare genetic disorder which has caused her to suffer from seizures, lissencephaly, cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. As a full-time wheelchair user and unable to communicate, Doris requires adult support at all times to meet her needs.
Her parents wanted her to be able to spend time in their garden so that she could play with her sisters and create lasting memories. However, the steps leading to the main garden prevented her from being able to do so and due to Doris' sensory needs, her family finds it hard to take her out in social environments.
As a result, the family needed some help to turn their garden into a safe and accessible place for Doris to enjoy being outside.
Ultra Decking and WellChild were able to transform the garden in just two days, creating a fully accessible and sensory area where Doris can play with her water table and smell the plants in her sensory flower bed.
With the cost of living and energy prices on the rise, many charities will experience an increased amount of financial strain, making it harder for projects like Doris' garden to be completed. However, with the help of businesses like Ultra Decking, it is possible to continue changing people's lives even in these tough times.
"With over 100,000 children living with complex health conditions in the UK, we are receiving enquiries every day….Without the support of suppliers like Ultra Decking, we simply wouldn't be able to complete these spaces, enabling children to thrive at home," said Kieran Cullen, WellChild's Helping Hands Programme Manager.
